So the final stop on the road to Wrestlemania is this weekend, as WWE Smackdown’s stars put on a show for Fastlane. Interestingly there does seem to be a proliferation of multi man matches, with the main event in particular being rather all over the place. Nevertheless it could be a decent if not spectacular card. But who do we think will win? In this article, we make ourĀ WWE Fastlane 2018 Predictions.
WWE Championship Match
AJ Styles (c) vs. John Cena vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler
The Fastlane card looks a bit sparse, because like the Elimination Chamber late last month, they appear to be going for the route of “throwing all contenders into a match”. AJ Styles was due to face one of Owens & Zayn, then Ziggler got added, then Corbin and finally Cena is added. A few contenders have their reasons – Cena in particular storyline is fascinating and Owens & Zayn have been not as harmonious as once they were.
In reality though this PPV is just a way to hold over between the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania. WWE would be stupid to not have a Styles vs Nakamura main event, so I’m going for Styles to retain.
Prediction: AJ Styles wins
WWE US Championship Match
Bobby Roode (c) vs. Randy Orton
This is one of the matches that is harder to call. Both individuals are babyfaces but can tease heel work (Roode’s work in particular last year was superb), so I’ve no idea what will happen. I’m feeling that although Roode is champion, a big win against Orton at Wrestlemania may be the best option to put him on the map, so my guess would be an Orton win, an Orton heel turn and a big win in NOLA for the Glorious one.
Prediction: Randy Orton win
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
The Usos (c) vs. The New Day
I’m wondering what they are doing with The Usos. Both these two teams have had wars against each other and they are both been considered babyfaces. They’re pushing the fact that The Usos haven’t been featured at Wrestlemania (which generally means that they are probably going to be involved), so I’d say Usos to retain. No idea who they will face at Wrestlemania though.
Prediction: The Usos win.
WWE SmackDown’s Women Championship
Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ruby Riott
In a match that could be the best match of the night, Ruby Riott will take on Charlotte Flair. Both are great wrestlers and I’ve been extremely impressed with Riott since joining the main roster, as I swore she would have been lost in the shuffle.
Again, this match I’m not sure what’s going to happen here. CharlotteĀ could still be an opponent for Asuka, and they could swerve it so that it happens, and Alexa Bliss takes on Nia Jax, which would make sense for a Charlotte retain. The other option is a Riott win and a Flair chase (or maybe the belt isn’t defended at Wrestlemania?). I cannot predict this one, so I’m going with Charlotte. It seems safer.
Prediction: Charlotte Flair wins.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev
So Nakamura is heading to the main event of Wrestlemania. Superb. In his way is the wonderfully brilliant Rusev, flanked by Aiden English.
Rusev & English could be an opponent for The Usos at the grandest stage of them all, and they should win. Rusev is superb, and needs a fresh babyface run. But for now, Nakamura should win.
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura wins.
Becky Lynch and Naomi vs. Natalya and Carmella
And we end up with a bit of a throwaway match featuring four talented women. I want them to do more with Becky Lynch, particularly as she looks lost in the shuffle right about now. So maybe a win here will work? Who knows?
Prediction: Becky Lynch & Naomi
