What a month for WWE. Lots have happened since their crowned a new champion at WWE Money in the Bank, two of their biggest stars have been suspended (one after a foray into the UFC), and of course we have the draft which has divided this roster into two.
Of course, this has meant that WWE Battleground has been slightly overlooked, which is a shame, as this is an interesting card on paper. This has meant predictions have been hard but without further ado, here are ou WWE Battleground 2016 Predictions.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins
So the main selling point of this month’s WWE Battleground is simple – “The first (and possibly last) time the Shield will battle”. This Wrestlemania-level main event is instead given away in a PPV before Summerslam, but with The Shield being split up, this is an ideal boost, as it should be the last time these face for a while.
With Ambrose going to Smackdown, it would be better with the belt, but I’d feel he could lose the belt to Rollins (or switch it back to Roman for the biggest heel heat ever). From the way in which the roster is split – with the roster on Smackdown being slightly weaker, I think Smackdown could get the World Title, and leave the WWE title to Raw.
Prediction: Seth Rollins wins
Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens
There was talk of this being the last match for Zayn vs. Owens for a while. That was until they were drafted together. This makes predicting this is a bit trickier as the feud could actually continue, despite what everybody says.
However, I think this could be the last time these face off in this feud, and as a result I can see Kevin Owens winning the feud overall. Owens should begin his march to the main event now, hopefully solidifying himself as a top tier star towards the end of the year. As for Zayn? he will be up there for years on end.
Prediction: Kevin Owens wins
John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. The Club (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson)
One group that has seen a lot of promise has been the pairing of Cena with Enzo & Cass. Immediately it stopped the “Cena Sucks” (which he doesn’t, since his US title run he has been brilliant), and actually produced some memorable moments. It’s a shame it’s a short live group as Enzo and Cass are off to Raw, whereas Cena is off to Smackdown.
As – also – is AJ Styles. This has caused The Club to break up as Gallows and Anderson are off to Raw, so whilst I can see the individual participants feuding, this is the last time this match will happen for a while.
I’m going for a Cena, Enzo & Cass victory. If the feud is to continue between the participants I can see the faces winning and then the heels coming back towards the end. As such, I’m going for one of Gallows & Anderson to take the fall in this match.
Prediction: John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass wins
WWE Intercontinental Championship
The Miz (c) vs. Darren Young (with Bob Backlund)
A slight revelation has been in recent weeks has Darren Young, along with Bob Backlund doing his “Make Darren Young Great Again”. They’ve earned themselves a title shot by winning a battle royal and The Miz – in the first time in forever – defends the Intercontinental Championship against the former Prime Time Player.
Whilst Darren Young has been great, I cannot see him winning this. Unless they switch the title holders on the two brands, I feel that both title holders in mid card titles will retain. So The Miz to win.
Prediction: The Miz wins
WWE United States Championship
Rusev (c) vs. Zack Ryder
Another surprising midcard title challenger is Zack Ryder, who seemingly has had a bit of a resurgence as of late. His latest reward is a match against Rusev. With that said, Ryder hasn’t been booked that strong.
As with the IC title, I cannot see them switching both (Rusev and Ryder are on different brands) so I can see Rusev retaining.
Prediction: Rusev wins
The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) vs. The Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman)
Another match that is looking to end a feud, that borrowed heavily from The Final Deletion from TNA (which was so over the top it was brilliant), as following the draft Braun Strowman is off to Raw and Wyatt and Rowan are on Smackdown.
As a result, I feel a possible turn for Strowman, costing his team the victory against The New Day. The New Day will go from strength to strength, but I feel their championships could be jeopardy soon….
Prediction: The New Day wins
Sasha Banks and TBD vs. Charlotte and Dana Brooke
Please be Bayley.
Sasha Banks and Charlotte’s feud continues for this month. They were right to hold off the title match until Summerslam, leading to Banks’ obvious coronation. Battleground has been seemingly forgotten for a while so save Banks’ title win for the big show.
In preparation for this, there is this tag team match with Banks to have a mystery partner. I’ve no idea who it could be, I hope it’s Bayley, but it could also be Paige or even Nia Jax. I feel though this would give her the edge and a strong victory before Summerslam.
Prediction: Sasha Banks & TBD Wins
Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
So Becky Lynch and Natalya are drafted to Smackdown, losing out on being champions for a while, but they continue their feud.
Smackdown looks to be the weaker show for the women, but this should be a cracking bout. Becky to get some measure of revenge on Natalya at Battleground.
Prediction: Becky Lynch Wins
