Well, the Royal Rumble was pretty good, wasn’t it? With monumental debuts, and great matches, the Royal Rumble was great PPV and certainly the best Rumble for a number of years. Yes it was a little bit predictable, but overall I really enjoyed the show. And now, with one month or so until Wrestlemania, we’re now face Fastlane.
Fastlane is shaping up to be an interesting PPV, if slightly predictable, as various things have been built up for Wrestlemania already, this seems like a PPV that crosses the i’s and dots the t’s. Nevertheless, the show could show some great matches, and we’re on the road to Wrestlemania, so at the very least it should be watchable, and may be profitable. So without further ado, here are our WWE Fastlane 2016 Predictions.
#1 Contendership Match
Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns
Interestingly, in recent years there has been a trend that the number one contendership for the title has been decided at Fastlane, not at the Royal Rumble. Whilst the Royal Rumble has decided a main-eventer for Wrestlemania, Fastlane has decided generally the winner.
This is a huge match, and in recent weeks it’s become impossible to pick the winner. Roman Reigns almost seemed to be a lock in for the main event spot, but with Dean Ambrose the last eliminated in this year’s rumble, Ambrose losing the Intercontinental Championship, and Ambrose seemingly being the focus, I’d suggest he’s probably the second favourite.
Lesnar is seemingly going into a promo with the Wyatt Family after this year’s Royal Rumble, so I cannot see him winning, and I’m still thinking that Roman Reigns could win to get closure on his story, as it makes complete sense, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ambrose wins. They have pushed him hard, and The Lunatic Fringe can (and should) be in a big match at this year’s Wrestlemania no matter what.
Prediction: Roman Reigns Wins
WWE Diva’s Title Match
Charlotte (/w Ric Flair) vs. Brie Bella
The big news from the past month is the final retirement of Daniel Bryan.
It’s been expected, as he hasn’t performed in nearly a year. With that, it’s also expected that Brie may be on the way out, and this could be her last hurrah in a match against Charlotte.
Wrestlemania is seemingly set up for Charlotte vs Sasha Banks, so I cannot see Brie win this. Hopefully she gets a final payday at Mania in a match of some note. But even with the sentimental favourite with Brie, I cannot see the road to Wrestlemania deviating here.
Prediction: Charlotte Wins
WWE US Title Match
Kalisto (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio
So as predicted, Kalisto regained the United States title at The Royal Rumble.
Kalisto also had the return of his Lucha Dragon tag team partner recently, with Sin Cara returning to the fold. As such, Del Rio has been appearing strong, as it seems like they’re pushing Kalisto back into the tag team picture. Which would suck.
I don’t think they will switch the title again. They cannot flip flop this title again. Plus it’s on the pre show. I’m going with Kalisto the slight favourite. But I’m not confident.
Prediction: Kalisto wins
WWE Intercontinental Title Match
Kevin Owens (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
Last Monday, Kevin Owens won back the Intercontinental Championship, further fuelling the fact that Ambrose may win a big match at Fast Lane.
This feud hasn’t really developed at all, so I cannot see Ziggler winning the title so quickly. Maybe a Sami Zayn match for Owens for the IC title? Or AJ Styles at Wrestlemania? Who knows? Either way, Ziggler is not winning here.
Prediction: Kevin Owens wins
Becky Lynch & Sasha Banks vs. Naomi & Tamina
So another big return was Sasha Banks at The Royal Rumble, seemingly take out Charlotte in the pursuit for the WWE Diva’s Title. It’s the match that most people want to see at Wrestlemania, to cement the Diva’s Revolution. For this to happen, Sasha needs to look strong, so Banks to win.
Prediction: Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch wins
