So another year is slowly drawing to a close as another big 4 is now is taking place. The last of the traditional big four of the year – Survivor Series. Once again they’re manufacturing the Raw vs. Smackdown brand war out of nowhere, so with little build this is once again champions versus champions, and a few traditional Survivor Series matches. Of course, this does affect the picks – as you can assume it’ll be close until the last match, because of course that’s what they do. So without further ado, here are our WWE Survivor Series 2018 Predictions.
Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte
So the golden girl of the WWE goes up against the Man. And man, has Becky Lynch been on fire since her heel turn?
Stealing the show at Evolution, and constantly entertaining, like a mix between Steve Austin and Connor McGregor, and walking around calling herself “The Man”. The blood soaked nose she got in the brawl at the end of RAW was the icing on the cake, even though it could actually affect the match, which is so watchable.
No idea what they do here. I hope it’s on last, and they don’t cut the legs off from under Lynch, as I would like to see possibly Becky win either by DQ, or shenanigans that go awry (assuming that they carry on towards a Rousey/Charlotte main event at Wrestlemania). It could be nice to see Becky get the win here, but unfortunately I don’t see it, unless you have three matches with screwy finishes.
EDIT: So in the process of writing this, this match (as well as another match) has been changed. Charlotte vs Rousey is now the match due to Becky Lynch’s injury. So I’m going to go full Ronda for this match. Shame. Should be good still.
Prediction: Ronda Rousey
Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Again, another possible dream match, with Nakamura as the US champion against Rollins as Raw champion. I hope they give this time, but with 7 matches on the card, as well as two of those being Survivor Series matches, I can feel this one being rather short.
Nevertheless, I feel like this match could be the screwy finish, as Ambrose is nowhere to be seen on the card. It seems like if any match has schenanigans, it will be here, with Ambrose costing Rollins the match here.
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura
Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Bryan
So, one of the other strange things to happen on WWE Smackdown was AJ Styles lost the WWE Championship to Daniel Bryan, cementing Bryan’s heel turn after he beat down AJ Styles, and changing the back to be Bryan vs. Brock.
I don’t see this being a long reign for Daniel Bryan, instead I can see him quickly losing it at the Pay-Per-View after Survivor Series. Brock will probably destroy Daniel Bryan here as well, and it will be probably what they wanted to do at that Summerslam main event they had that one time, where Brock destroyed Cena instead.
Prediction: Brock Lesnar
Traditional Survivor Series Matches
Team Raw (Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, Braun Strowman, Finn Bálor & Bobby Lashley) vs. Team Smackdown (The Miz, Jeff Hardy, Shane McMahon, Rey Mysterio & Samoa Joe)
So this is the first of the Survivor Series matches, and there are a bunch of combustible elements on both sides. Braun doesn’t get on with Dolph & Drew, Finn doesn’t get on with Lashley, and The Miz & Shane McMahon have something going on as well.
With Bryan turning heel, I can see possibly The Miz switching roles to become a babyface, especially with McMahon threatening a turn as well, as Smackdown is currently a bit light on Faces – especially with Jeff Hardy winding down his career. Expect a strong Miz performance, but Team Raw to be victorious.
Prediction: Team Raw
Team Raw (Mickie James, Nia Jax, Tamina, Natalya, & Ruby Riott) vs. Team SmackDown (Carmella, Naomi, Sonya Deville, Asuka, & TBA)
So with Charlotte bumped into the Ronda match, as cool as it would have been to put Asuka in the match with Ronda, it makes sense to have the other star of the Smackdown women’s division in the match instead.
That leaves Team Smackdown one member down. I’m not sure who would go in? Logic says Lana, maybe Nikki Cross as somebody could join from Raw? Who knows. I feel with the missing piece going in I feel like Team Smackdown will get the win.
Prediction: Team Smackdown
Team Raw (Bobby Roode, Chad Gable, The Revival, The B-Team, Lucha House Party & The Ascension) vs. Team SmackDown (The Usos, The New Day, Sanity, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson and The Colóns)
So the Pre-Show match is a massive clustermuck of a largely forgotten tag team division. It has moments, of course, but tag team wrestling is incredibly weak – I mean The Colóns have appeared from nowhere for a spot on this card!
The Smackdown team on paper looks stronger, so lets go with them.
Prediction: Team Smackdown
AOP vs. The Bar
Onto the two headliners of the tag division at the moment – The Authors of Pain vs The Bar. It was a nice surprise to see AOP get the tag titles, and this is an intriguing match, if nobody really is the face here. Expect height based banter between Drake Maverick and The Big Show, but expect The Authors of Pain to pick up a strong win.
Predction: AOP
WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Buddy Murphy (c) vs. Mustapha Ali
Onto the final match of the card, and one of the more interesting ones, as this match is separate from all the red vs blue war that is the rest of the card. Buddy Murphy stole the show at Super Show-Down, and Mustapha Ali is the best pure babyface on the roster. This could be a good match, but Murphy to retain.
Prediction: Buddy Murphy
